New functionalities, UI improvements and design strategy for a Silicon Valley tech enablement platform. Designed in Sketch.

About the product

PlusPlus is a tech enablement platform used by large Silicon Valley tech companies. Its client list includes names like Netflix, LinkedIn, and Airbnb, each with their own organizational structure and set of requirements. PlusPlus provides a modularized, tailored experience for each of their clients. As a small but growing startup, PlusPlus hired Vinta as a team of technical experts to help scale the product and provide a world-class experience to their customers.

My work in PlusPlus

I worked with PlusPlus as a Product Design consultant for about 18 months. When I first joined the team as the sole designer, my initial goal was to conceptualize a new module for the platform. PlusPlus power-users requested a Mentorship tool, through which new hires could seek career and technical advice from senior employees.

During interviews and feature explorations with power users, I discovered numerous other experience gaps, UI inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement in other areas of the product, which were gradually proposed to the client and added to our roadmap.

Achievements

In addition to the Mentorship module, which we built from scratch and became one of the product's most loved features, other accomplishments I had at PlusPlus were:

• Increase consistency in product language and tone of voice, through an UX writing styleguide;
• Improve UX in the Events module, PlusPlus flagship functionality. We designed and implemented new features such as a waitlist, RSVP, and the ability to choose between in-person and online attendance.
• Create a new, more robust structure for Event filters to accommodate the increasingly complex use cases for PlusPlus across different companies;
• Redesign the user profile page to include relevant information about employee participation in events, mentorship schedule, and areas of interest.
• Build several power-user features (Analytics panel, Dashboard with bulk-actions, a functionality to enable batch-enrollment of groups) to streamline the experience of Learning Managers.

This was one of my favorite projects during my time at Vinta, one in which I had great rapport with both the engineering team and the client. The PlusPlus rhythm was fast-paced and we had to deal with constantly shifting priorities, but having a shared vision and a high level of trust enabled us to create a truly world-class product.
